The President and CEO of Mohler Communication Strategies Don Mohler recently completed his term as Baltimore County Executive, serving as the Chief Executive of the third largest county in Maryland, a county that is larger than four states, representing over 830,000 residents, 21,000 businesses with a $3.15 billion operating and $700 million capital budget. Don spent his entire career in public service.  He began as a respected teacher, principal and central office administrator, including the responsibility of Assistant Superintendent for Communications and Community Outreach. Don served as a key advisor to four superintendents. Using the skills and lessons learned in the public education arena, Don then served as Communications Director and Chief of Staff to Baltimore County Executives Jim Smith and Kevin Kamenetz. He provided operational assistance by managing special projects and public events, reporting directly to the Baltimore County Executive, while managing access to the Executive. Don managed the organization’s internal and external communications, with an expertise in the area of crisis communication.

You Have a Choice to Make

By Don Mohler If you climb out on a ledge, there is always a chance that you will fall. What the heck. I am going out there anyway. Joe Biden gave the State of the Union Address on March 7, 2024. But he did much more than that— he secured a second term. I can…

End the Filibuster; Win an Election

By Don Mohler There is not much we agree on as a nation anymore. But we do agree that our politics is broken and that our country is headed in the wrong direction. Yes, the two parties come to that conclusion from vastly different perspectives, but agree they do. Since the traditional Republican Pary has…

The Orioles Deal Proves the State will Govern in Partnership

By Don Mohler I love public service. I’ve had the privilege of working for the people of Maryland throughout my career – from my early days as a teacher, to my work advising four different school superintendents, to my role as a senior advisor to two Baltimore County Executives, to my own tenure as Baltimore…

A Letter for Brooks

By Don Mohler Dear Adley, Gunnar, and you too, Jackson, It’s been 48 hours since we lost a giant, Brooks Calbert Robinson Jr. As you guys know, Brooksie was the greatest Oriole of all time, and the greatest third baseman in baseball history. You met Brooks. You saw firsthand what kind of man he was.…

The Rule of Law

By Don Mohler As the world continues to spin out of control, Donald J. Trump is about to be indicted for a third time. “One, two, three strikes you’re out,” unless of course you are the leader of one of the most loyal and passionate cults ever created. In that case, you just keep blathering…

Dads Come In All Shapes and Sizes

By Don Mohler Note: This blog is republished annually on Father’s Day weekend.  It was originally published on June 15, 2019 and is meant to be a reminder that dads and families do indeed come in all shapes and sizes.  “Thanks mom.”  Yep, that’s right. Thanks mom. I know it’s Father’s Day, but sorry dads.…

Donkey Versus Elephant, Volume 1

By Don Mohler American Presidential elections take far too long. I did not need Pew Research to tell me that voters are exhausted by the process, but they did. The 2020 election cycle took 1194 days from start to finish. You read that correctly. The campaign season lasted roughly 40 months. That is insane, but…

Notes and Quotes

By Don Mohler The battle for the soul of our nation continues.  Tucker Carlson and Marjorie Taylor Greene continue to try to rewrite the history of January 6, 2020. The Celebrity Ex-President threatens violence on a regular basis, and a major Republican candidate for President called the invasion of a sovereign power a “territorial dispute.”…

Enough Already

By Don Mohler I had just gotten home from dinner with good friends when I settled in to watch President Biden deliver his State of the Union Address. I should have stuck with the Terp game. It began in a very upbeat, positive, and bipartisan manner.  The President congratulated Kevin McCarthy on being elected Speaker…

Editor’s Note: Last week following the inauguration of Maryland Governor Westley Watende Omari Moore, Damian O’Doherty, founding partner of KO Public Affairs, stopped by the “Front Porch” to reflect on the moment. It was a heartwarming discussion. By Damian O’Doherty I took this photo when James Moore first saw his dad’s first campaign ad. Nearby,…
